Mini Me

When shopping for my daughter's clothes I almost always find myself saying "I wish that came in my size". I dress my daughter like I dress myself. All my favorite stores and all my favorite designers now cater to the smaller crowd. Though I would probably not wear this outfit the same day as her , I like the idea that we can.

Beyond Layette

Before my daughter was born I had already picked out her entire wardrobe. Light pink and lavender stretchies, nightgowns, white onesies, and all the basics she would need for the first couple of months of her life. Fast forward four months. Aside from being tired of putting on the same six outfits every day, nothing fits! Balancing that infant to baby phase is a challenge, and I'm here to help.
The key to dressing an infant is figuring out their real size. Sales ladies in children's clothing stores know their stuff and can be very useful in this department. Get their feedback and take home more than one size to try. Trying clothes on a baby isn't fun but once you nail down a size the shopping experience gets fun. For girls, my go to outfit is leggings and a t-shirt. Baby's thighs are edible and even more so in a good fitting pair of leggings. Keep colors neutral- black, grey, tan and sure, go for the pink. When you find a pair you love, buy them in every color!(At first you may need to roll your leggings up at the waist or cuff them up, but at the rate babies grow it'll only be for a couple of weeks.) T's should fit well to avoid a sloppy look. Have fun with colors and patterns. I am a firm believer that babies look better in dresses once they're walking. I have been fought on this account by everyone I know so I've included some cute ,not so frilly, dresses. Just remember diaper covers are a must!

'Gilt'-Free Shopping

One of my favorite spots for budgeted designer clothing has got to be sample-sale websites. Gilt.com is probably the most popular one out there, and with good reason. At 12pm everyday a new slew of reduced designer clothing is up for grabs. I like to use Gilt to find unique, fun pieces to fit into my daughters wardrobe. Unlike Zara or Gap, I don't look to come out with a shopping cart filled with a spring wardrobe. A random blouse, a unique piece of jewelry (Yes jewelry! I bought my niece adorable Vera Wang-inspired bow earrings for her birthday) or even cute tutus for dress-up. They also feature more high-end companies like Jacadi and Marie Chantal if you need anything fancy.

Egg by Susan Lazar Blouse
Earrings by Frida ($50 originally $85)

Tip for boys- Gilt features Vilberquin boys swim and Joe's jeans on their site A LOT, hold out and you're sure to snag some at a fraction of the original price.
$50 reduced from $110

Rue-la-la.com doesn't feature children's clothes every day but instead once a week. Their selection is not always amazing but again, keep your eyes open and you'll get lucky. My sisters and I each bought these cute Little Marc bathing-suits- for $39 a piece!!

There are tons more sites out there as well like Hautelook.com, (also features Joe's Jeans regularly) and Zulily.com. Zulily features a ton of different designers a day, most of which are not as high-end as the other sites. With some weeding out though, you can definitely find great items. What they do have is a lot of pajamas which are always great, and infant stretchies and gowns by Babysteps.

I can go on and on about my purchases on these websites, but ill leave it at this: It is definitely worth a look every couple of days to see if anything catches your eye. You never know if those cute jeggings you just paid full price for are actually on sale for $20 on one of these sites. And who doesn't love getting packages in the mail! Happy Hunting.....

More Bang for your Buck!

When looking to save money its always key to buy a piece that can be worn multiple ways. Take this cardigan from Nordstroms. The sweater can be worn closed with a button down and navy slacks for a holiday look. When looking to go more casual, the sweater can be worn open with a graphic tee and jeans. For a preppy look, and when the weather calls for it, the cardigan can be worn with white shorts and boat shoes. All these looks are very different , yet incorporate one very adorable cardigan. So there you go- more bang for your buck!

Accessories for Boys

For those of you with boys, listen up! Boys can accessorize too! We all know dressing a boy can get a little repetitive, jeans a shirt, and you're done. But it doesn't have to end there. Taking a note from their (favorite) Uncle Leo, our boys have given up solid black dress socks and amped it up. Argyle, skulls, and stripes now adorn their ankles and it couldn't look cuter, or be any cheaper.
Children's Place boys socks $2.96 a pair

Ties are another great accessory. My 5 year old son wants nothing more than to be exactly like his father. Hence the search for stylish, inexpensive ties. One has to look no further than Children's Place. At $7.50 a tie, you won't mind grabbing three or four of these to spruce up your little man's dress shirts.

Children's Place Ties $7.50 each

Enjoy accessorizing your son, a little bit goes a long way with boys!

Mixing High End with Low End

Mixing High End with Low End

Magazines are always advising to mix high end pieces with low end pieces. Why not incorporate that into kids wardrobes? This Milly Mini polka dot skirt can be paired with a basic black t-shirt. If splurging, look to buy something that can be worn for more than one season. The t shirt can be swapped for a cardigan, sandals or ballet flats can be swapped for stockings and boots.

DVF for Gap!

DVF for GAP!!
My all time favorite designer is Diane Von Furstenberg. Every season I  scour websites to see the latest by DVF. If I only purchase one new item for a holiday season its almost always by DVF. So of course when I heard she was making a line for Gap I almost fainted. My daughter will be able to wear the clothing I absolutely love! I immediately called my sisters thinking this news almost too good to be true. I (not so) patiently awaited the March 15th debut. The wrap dresses, eyelet shorts and everything very Diane Von Furstenberg , I was elated! Run , don't walk to your nearest Gap or log on to Gap.Com because it will soon be gone. And every little fashionista needs some DVF.

Prices Range from $80.00-$20.00 all atGap.com

Little Marc!

Little Marc
One of my favorite designers for my daughter, as well as myself, is Marc Jacobs. Less expensive than his adult line, the line for kids, appropriately named Little Marc, is still a little pricey. However, every season the Little Marc line features t-shirts that are very reasonably priced. These t-shirts are a great way to add a little designer to your daughter's closet without breaking the bank. They can be paired with a jean skirt or jeggings, or for a look that's very Marc Jacobs a tutu or a fancier skirt.
